F I R SAUNAS - THE BACKGROUND
THE FAR INFRA RED SAUNA
WHAT IT IS, HOW IT WORKS,
AND THE BENEFITS TO YOU
FIRST, WHAT
ARE FIR RAYS?
FAR INFRA RED rays are an integral part of the sun’s spectrum, and though invisible it has been known for many years as the ’Light of Life’ in Korea, Japan and China, where the advantages of the
FIR rays in therapeutic use first became common.
Since then Thermal Infra Red heating has been used extensively in Europe and
USA and the health benefits assessed and reported on. You may at times have used an infrared lamp as a heat treatment aid to ease back pain or sprains and muscle lesions.
The Human body absorbs naturally the Far Infra Red energy from sun exposure, and when activated by heat also emits
FIR energy, a phenomenon called ‘resonance’.
WHAT DO FIR RAYS DO?
FIR rays vibrating at a frequency to that of the human body are able to activate cells, and reactivate as well as strengthen and regulate the micro blood circulatory systems.
The body’s ability to also emit FIR energy is the reason behind some alternative healing practices such as ‘laying-on of hands’ and ‘palm healing’, a practice with some 3000 years of tradition behind it in China. Our palms in fact emit far infrared energy at between 8 to 14 microns.
In Japan FIR heaters were used by the medical practitioners exclusively until 1979 when they were released for public use.
The energy radiated by infrared [IR] rays heats objects directly, i.e. the intervening air is not heated, a process known as ‘conversion’.
The IR segment of the Sun’s electromagnetic spectrum is divided into 3 parts: the NEAR infrared wavelength: 0.076 to 1.5 microns, MEDIUM infrared wavelength: 1.5 to 5.6 microns, and the FAR INFRA RED wavelength: 5.6 to 1000 microns.
Our sun’s energy output comes mostly from the IR segment of the spectrum, but it is the wavelength of between 7 and 14 microns that is most beneficial to humans and indeed to all living things on this earth.
HOW IT WORKS:
The FIR rays’ energy when tuned to the human body is absorbed by the cells invigorating the cellular activities and stimulating the blood vessel allowing increased oxygen to reach the joints and extremities and carrying greater amounts of nutrients to cells and skin.
The heat energy penetrate the body tissues to a depth of 4 to 5cm quickly and efficiently, and instead of using energy to convert air to higher temperatures, as for example in a steam sauna, the energy is converted directly to heat the body.
This is one of the reasons for the unprecedented benefits reported for the FIR Sauna system, unavailable from the use of a conventional steam sauna.
The volume of perspiration induced by FIR Sauna may be up to 2-3 times the volume obtained from a conventional sauna, yet the FIR sauna operates a significantly cooler air temperature 45-55oC [110-130oF], against the hot air sauna’s 80-115oC [180-235oF], so FIR saunas are safer for people with cardiovascular concerns.
When it is desired to enjoy only the FIR ray penetration the front of the sauna cubicle may be left open, i.e. unzipped, for example for the purpose of a pre-activity warm-up, even when fully clothed, then minimal perspiration is likely to be experienced.
This approach is useful for a warm-up prior to stretching, working-out, running or before exposure to cold weather, as well as being useful for those competing in international games.
Dr. Tsu-Tsair Oliver Chi observed in his explanation on the mechanism of actions of IR devices tuned to the human body, that the internal production of infrared energy that normally occurs within our tissues is associated with a variety of healing responses and could provide a boost to the fullest healing response possible in a tissue under repair. The phenomenon [also referred to above] is known as ‘resonant absorption’.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
FIR sauna therapy speeds up the metabolic process of vital organs and endocrine glands resulting in substantial caloric loss, i.e. weight loss, during a sauna session.
The increased blood flow speeds healing of sprains and strains and relieves pain. It also helps aching muscles to recover faster because the metabolic and toxic waste products are purged faster from your system and through the skin when perspiring.
In fact, the skin is often referred to as the ‘3rd kidney’ because it is believed responsible for eliminating up to 30% of the body waste. With the extra nutrient reaching the skin the sought-after ‘glow’ is obtained whilst promoting healthy tone and texture, helping the body to ward off invading organisms.
It is well known that a fever is the body’s response to infection because of increased activity of the immune system fighting the invading germs. An increase in the function of the immune system incurs naturally during
FIR sauna’ing and this treatment for early stages of colds and flu’ like virus are known to be successful in stopping the disease before becoming full-blown.
It is clear then, that increased wellbeing and better health can be enjoyed by regular use of the
FIR sauna, and is substantiated by the information provided by a number of eminent people and researchers as well as results of international studies carried out on the use and benefits recorded from the use of IR treatment.
In addition to the health benefits obtainable from the use of a
FIR Sauna there are some down-to-earth benefits too.
A FIR sauna is easy and comfortable to use compared to the Steam sauna and does not require the extensive warm up period of the latter. It leads to a more regular use of the
FIR sauna and the consequent benefits that can be conferred. Hence the running cost is much less, around 5 cents for power compared to a steam sauna costing up to 10 times more to operate. For that low cost you can enjoy the unique and unprecedented benefits of the
FIR Sauna.
